TALKING RIBBONS: HOW TO PLAY THEM.

POSITION THE TAPE

1. Identify talk side of Talkie Tape or Talkie.
Examine the Talkie, one side is smooth and the other side is rough. That roughness is the recorded message. This side must be up (or facing your thumbnail if using another position).

2. Identify start of talk on the Talkie.
Notice one end of the Talkie is blunt, (squared off), the other end is pointed or vee shaped. The pointed end is the start of the talk, begin normal play at this end.

ATTACH THE TAPE.

The Talkie must be attached to something that will amplify the sound. Using a piece of 2" by 2-3" long clear packing tape is fine for attaching the Talkie.

1. Place the sticky side of the packaging tape on TALK side of the Talkie at the POINTED (start) end. At least 1 inch should be stuck to the tape.

2. Stick the tape to the center of surface of the item to be made to talk.

Note: Labels or other types of tape may be substituted for the packaging tape.

PLAY METHOD #1

1. Make a fist with your right hand.
2. Open the fist slightly - about half way open.
3. Place the attached Talkie into your hand with the thumb facing the item that will talk.
4. Rest the nail of your thumb on the Talkie. The Talkie should be inside one joint of the index finger.
5. Slide your hand down the Talkie with light pressure. DO NOT SQUEEZE.
6. The item the Talkie is attached to will talk.
7. A little practice with the speed will make the sounds you hear very clear.

Remember your thumbnail is the needle on a phonograph record.

PLAY METHOD #2

1. Slip the four fingers under the Talkie cupping your hand.
2. Rest the nail of your thumb on the Talkie. The Talkie should be inside one joint of the index finger.
3. Slide your hand down the Talkie with light pressure. DO NOT SQUEEZE.
4. The item the Talkie is attached to will talk.
5. A little practice with the speed will make the sounds you hear very clear.

Very light pressure is best and all that's needed.
